The Info Teller, Newspaper

Newspaper makes me think of my mother. She's the one who influence me to read the newspaper, the one who always tell me about what has just happened around the world (whenever I'm too lazy to read it by myself). Everytime when she had finished reading the newspapers, I would sure be mumbled, you know why? It is because the newspaper always show news about crime, dangerous cases that had just happened around us especially cases similar to girls being raped and killed. I guess that you for sure know why I would be mumbled cause of that? *laugh* Yes, I'm the kind of girl who always like to hang out with friends, so it's normal that my mum always like to tell me cases related to girls so that I will not hang out with friends so oftenly and beware whenever I'm away from home.

Me, unlike my mother who will always sit on the sofa, make herself a cup of coffee and read the whole newspaper, yes, its every single column (except for those horoscopes, sudoku and etc). When it comes to newspaper, I'm quite choosy. My family purchased 3 kinds of newspapers (2 Mandarin, 1 English) anually, which I'm gonna show you later. Every morning when the newspapers arrive, the headlines will make me decide whether I wanna read them or not.

Everyone knows that the headline of the newspaper can be considered as the most attractive news of the whole newspaper. So if the headline does not attract me, I will consider that the entire newspaper content will also bore me, sorry to say that to the newspaper lovers like my mother :O

Online Newspaper VS. Printed Newspaper

People like me, I can't live without my gadgets. Lately, online newspaper has been introduced to the society. Me, myself have an iPad, I'd downloaded a newspaper application called "evening edition" and it really make me feel convenient at first. But after sometime, I don't really quite like reading newspaper online anymore. I still prefer reading news through the printed newspapers, don't ask me why, I just like the feel of holding the newspaper on my hand and flip the pages one by one. How about you?

Well, as I said I'm gonna show you the 3 kinds of newspapers which my family purchase. What so special about them? They are different from what you are reading now unless you're a "Sabahan" like me.

Overseas Chinese Daily News

New Sabah Times

The Borneo Post

Seems unfamiliar? Of course you do. :)

Violent Kids?

What is on your mind when you first look at the picture above? A kid playing video games happily? Well, for me, he looks kinda scary :S

I'm gonna talk about Cultivation Theory today. Basically, it means people being cultivated or influenced when they watch certain TV shows or even play certain video games that contain characteristics in them. They may apply them to their real life, treating them as reality. Normally, this happens only to the heavy TV viewers and people (especially kids which are still immature) who like to play video games that contain violence. They may imitate the actions from the shows or games they have played. Seems creepy huh?

Grand Theft Auto, a violent video game which has various types of versions. This reminds me of my cousin brother. I remember when he was at the age of 10, he played this game everyday and addicted to it, crazy enough. I can honestly tell that this game really taught him to become violent. Everytime when we met, his hand would surely be holding either a toy gun or a toy knife and he would start running here and there, pretending that he was trying to kill people. =.=

Other than that, kids usually like to watch violent cartoon shows and this applied to my cousin brothers who watched most of the time. When my cousin brother was playing with his younger brother, after a couple of minutes, they would be fighting with each other, competing whose "power" would be stronger. At that time, I would for sure hearing them shouting all sorts of sounds like *POWER*BING*BANG*BUSH*RAAAWWRR*. This clearly proved that they actually learned and influenced by the TV shows that they had watched.

And after fighting, my younger cousin brother would usually be the one who cried because he lost.

The video below can prove that video games may cultivate kids and teens to be violent.

Taboo! Think Out of the Box!

A word-guessing game produced by Hasbro which I'd never know about its existence until my lecturer, Mr. Hardip showed us how to play and gave us a try on that during our lecture. Honestly, i do not have great interest on word-guessing game but Taboo is different, it ain't like other word-guessing games such as Scrabble.

Taboo is really fun, you have to describe the word given on top of the card without using the words given below the answer and the others will have to do the guessing. It made us laughed for the entire lecture. Since we were not allowed to mention certain words in order to let the guessers to guess what is that particular word is, everyone became so excited, keep guessing and shouting the answers around.

For my experience, when it was my turn to be the one who let my group members to do the guessing, I was pretty nervous and scared if I couldn't present the given words. Fortunately, it was quite okay yet FUN. For my very first time playing this game, I was able to let them guessed 2 words correctly, the words "wallet" and "nick name". I remember it was so funny when I first mentioned "every guy has it" to describe the word "wallet", everyone started to laugh because what first came into mind was the private parts of guys. But then, when I mentioned "guys, you bring this everyday to buy something", one of my group members quickly shouted "wallet". VOILA

For me, the thing I've gained and learned from this game is the "thought process". Different people have different ways of thinking. Through this game, I was able to know how and what my group members were thinking when they were guessing the given words and the way they present something to the others.

I believe that our thought processes will be improved since a fixed time is given for guessing and describing the words in this game. Moreover, team spirit can be developed by playing this game too, since everyone has to cooperate in order to guess the words correctly.

Through this very first time experience on playing this game, I've decided to buy one "Taboo" for myself as it really can develop creative thinking, plus I know it's gonna be fun playing it with friends.

Delicatessen, a French Film.

My lecturer, Mr. Hardip had shown us a French movie called Delicatessen, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro in 1991. At first, by hearing the title of the movie, I thought it was gonna be a romantic movie. Well, it's not! But some parts do focused on romance.

The black comedy was set in an old apartment block, somewhere in post-apocalyptic France, where there's apparently a shortage of meat. In order to survive, a butcher kills people since there are lack of food. The movie start to reach a climax when a guy who used to be a clown, looking for an occupation in the apartment which belongs to the creepy butcher. And there's where romance happened between the former clown and the butcher's daughter.

These are the main characters of the film:

The former clown, Louison (Dominique Pinon).

The cruel butcher, Clapet (Jean Claude Dreyfus).

The butcher's daughter, Julie Clapet (Marie Laure Dougnac).

There are a few minor characters, they are:

1. Marcel and Madame Tapioca, a couple who has two troublesome sons.
2. Aurore, the insane woman who always listen to a man voice and tries to commit suicide.
3. The disgusting man who lives with frogs and snails.

The rest are the bunch of people who are the vegetarians.

Well, there are a few scenes which are my favourite parts of the film:

The part where they made a fun rhythm.

Yeah! Happy ending! I found the duet music that Louison and Julie play are really unique.

My overall experience of digesting the content of the movie is:

At first, I really didn't get to understand what the movie was trying to expressed because its in French and I found it hard to just depend on the subtitles given. I found the characters of the movie are kinda weird in the beginning, but slowly the entire movie attracted my attention when the climax took place. I think i could understand about 70 percent of the film. The movie kept me guessing on what kind of scenes would happen next. Its a quite worth-watching comedic film, why not give it a try? :)

Here's the trailer:

Enjoy :D

Dependency

Smartphones everywhere, tablets everywhere, laptops everywhere.. In this modern era, people including me are much dependent on the media especially with the existence of gadgets that enable us to use the media anytime, anywhere. You can see, restaurants nowadays even provide their customers free wi-fi connection in order to enable them connecting to the internet.

According to my lecturer, Mr. Hardip, the more dependent or reliable a person is on media, the more important the media plays in his or her life. This is called the Dependency Theory. Hmm.. Let's talk about the social media site, Facebook, the one that everyone owns.

Do you think that the picture above is true? If so, congratulations! You're certified as a Facebook addict like me. I can say that Facebook is the major reason why my iPhone's battery life can only stand for a few hours. I'm really dependent or reliable on Facebook because I love to keep myself updated with my friends' status updates, latest pictures and so on.

Sometimes, without Facebook I wouldn't have known about some popular current events which have just happened. Example, the song "Gangnam Style" by the popular korean singer, PSY. Everywhere in my newsfeed, I saw people shared that music video. At first, I really have no idea why is that song so famous? But now, it stucks in my head :O People even did parodies for it. OMG

Facebook becomes a place for people to share all sorts of things, even NEWS. School life keeps me busy but no matter how, Facebook is a MUST for me. I remember once, I told my mum the news about the poor little China girl being ignored while cars went over her. My mum was like "how did you know that? I'm glad that you actually read the newspapers", she knows that I'm too lazy to touch the newspapers and shocked when I first told her about the news. I told her "no lah, I know it from a video people shared on Facebook", she was speechless. *laugh*

P/S: I'm actually multi-tasking while writing this blogpost, yes, Facebook is the other task. Dependent much? :x

Review on a Trip to Perth

Just this March, I'd visited Perth, Australia to attend my cousin's graduation. What Perth means to me now is peaceful lifestyle. As you can see from the picture of me sitting on the grass above, does it bring the meaning of peace to you? For me, it is very greenish and clean, which are the signs of peace.

Compare to Malaysia, I honestly admit that Perth is much more peaceful, clean and safe. Have you ever walk bare-footedly in Malaysia's streets? Will you give it a try? Me neither. But in Perth, I did. The streets are so clean that you don't have to worry about your foot getting dirty. In addition, the citizens there are friendly too. I remember when I first got there, there was an Australian asking me whether I'm a Japanese. I answered him "I'm not, I'm a Malaysian Chinese, he directly replied "Wow nice, welcome to Australia".

I felt so warm talking to them although we might be just strangers. In Perth, you don't have to worry on being seen in a weird way just because you may be in different races, from different countries. But in Malaysia, "some people" might be racist, I'm not criticising all, but some, so don't get me wrong :)

The photo above is a photo I took when i was eating in a Chinese restaurant in Perth. As you can see, there are Australians eating Chinese food too. This proves that Australians love different cultures. When I first got into that Chinese restaurant, out of my expectation, I saw the amount of Australians   eating there were more than the Chinese people.

Fish and Chips in Cicerellos, Fremantle.

Cicerello's Gelato Ice-cream in Fremantle.

The pictures above are the food I'd taken when I visited a place called "Fremantle" in Perth. When you mention "Fremantle", you can find out that majority of the Australians will surely recommend you to go to an open-air restaurant called "Cicerellos". One word to describe the food, CRAZY. They were really delicious, trust me, when you go to Perth, you must give them a try, no regrets eventhough I gained weight.

One of the park in Perth. Trust me, you'll never find places as clean as this in Malaysia.

The Cottlesloe Beach. It's the word clean again.

However, there are no certain agreement and disagreement for me when it comes to the question "Shall Perth be visited?". It is all depend on you, if you're a person who do not bother about cleanliness and peacefulness, then I do not think that Perth is suitable for you. But I recommend you to visit Perth if it's a few days trip because it's gonna be enjoyable especially with the food and the fascinating yet beautiful places there. If you're a person who would like to set yourself free from stress, I strongly recommend you to visit this peaceful place.

Well, for me, I would like to say I like Perth but I won't stay there for a long period. Perth is suitable for people who wanna find a new place to stay in for retirement life. But for entertainment, Perth is lack of that, it will be called as "boring" for certain people.

Perth, Peace.

Music Genre

First of all, I have to say for me, NO MUSIC NO LIFE! There are many genres of music but I chose Pop as my favourite. I'm actually listening to one of my favourite pop band, One Direction while writing this blogpost, wait, are you a fan of them too? If you are, feel free to comment below.

Of course, there's a reason why I'm really addicted to their Pop music, if you're thinking that I love them cause of their "stunning" appearances, well, I can honestly tell you that's not the main reason, *laughs* I don't judge book but it's cover. The reason is their every single songs can truly inspire me. Everytime when I listen to their Pop songs, they will surely make me feel young, I'm not saying that I'm old, but seriously, I feel that Pop songs are seriously suitable for teenagers like me.

Pop music is a MUST for me whenever I'm free, eventhough I'm not, I'll at least spare sometime on listening to them. Like these few days, what stuck on my mind is the song "Live while we're young" by One Direction, it's so catchy, especially the lyrics! If you haven't listen to it yet, please do give it a try on playing the YouTube video below.

In life, we always have to be ready on facing all sorts of ups and downs. I don't know why, everytime when I listen to Pop music, it really do help me on releasing stress, and gets me away from tiredness as a student. When I feel upset or tired cause of something, I'll surely lock myself inside my room and start to put on some Pop music by my amplifier. Sometimes I will even dance with them, trust me, it works.

There are many music artists out there producing different genres of music. There's another genre of music which I also do like a lot, the Rock genre. I'll highly recommend the Pop Rock band "Boys like Girls" for you as their songs are really nice yet the lyrics are meaningful. For me, Rock music is sometimes quite emotional for me because of their lyrics, don't feel weird :) Everytime when I listen to them, they always bring flashbacks of me and my ex, just some of my personal experience *laughs*. Moreover, Pop Rock music can give me great inspiration and makes me feel strong, just like the song "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson with the quote "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger". Well, seriously, please do give them a try.

Stronger by Kelly Clarkson.

Be your Everything by Boys like Girls.
